We are a grass roots organization working within the Thnoi Trong community. We provide Free Education to orphans and children around this village. Whilst 'free education for all' is our priority and is an important step in breaking the cycle of poverty, we cannot ignore the chronic malnutrition, ill health and appalling living conditions our orphans and people face every day.
S.O.C therefore provides the following for disadvantaged children, youth and adults of Thnol Trong Village:
.Free Medical Treatment for the Community
.Free Sewing Lessons
.Community Support and Development
There are 20 village students and 29 orphaned children who learn English from 8.00am to 10.30am daily. Education is key to these children’s future. Savong Orphanage Centre is officially recognized by the Ministry of Education of Cambodian Government. Education qualifications issued by SOC are accepted throughout Cambodia as a formal accreditation.
Our clinic has an average of 60 patients a day. Our part-time Khmer doctor and nurse treat and dispense medication for approximately 4 villages each week. The most common health problems in the village include: infected wounds, Tapeworm, Salmonella, Chronic malnutrition, Hepatitis, Typhoid, Tuberculosis and Dengue Fever.
We have a sewing teacher who is currently teaching 13 women how to sew. She runs two shifts a day from 8am -11am and 2pm -5pm.
Regular field trips around the village allow us to monitor family needs. We provide blankets, mosquito nets, mats, tarpaulins and bicycles to those most in need. When we are able to raise funds we install water pumps to provide clean water, re-roof and repair people's homes, and on occasion, build new homes.
